Preaching is a word that is notoriously difficult to define. The use of the word in every day English carries a variety of meanings, many of them with negative overtones. Most people seem to have an instinctive, or at least subconscious, understanding of the word and recognize when they are being “preached at”.

- A THEOLOGY OF PREACHINGPreaching is a word that is notoriously difficult to define. The use of the word in every day English carries a variety of meanings, many of them with negative overtones. Most people seem to have an instinctive, or at least subconscious, understanding of the word and recognize when they are being “preached at”.2
- PRINCIPLES OF SERMON CONSTRUCTIONRead the text to the best of your ability deeply to get an idea of what the scripture is about. As you read the text seek for the basic question which the text deals with. After determining the question, then try to find all the answers provided in the text for this basic question.1
- TEACHING METHODSThe authority model is teacher-centered and frequently entails lengthy lecture sessions or one-way presentations. Students are expected to take notes or absorb information. The demonstrator retains the formal authority role by showing students what they need to know.2
- PREPARING AND TEACHING BIBLE STUDIESThis should probably go without saying, but I would recommend reading the text upwards of 10 times. And reading in such a way as to enter it. To smell, see, and taste what is happening in the text.2
